Hi
My best friends mother is a Wicca follower and have been for around 13 years, i have always been interested in the magic and paranormal side of life so i started to learn about it.
I have my Wicca Bible which i bought from a book store a few weeks back and have learned quite a bit of what Wicca is and the rules that needs to be followed.
I was just wondering if you could wright me a little list of the basics i need so i can continue my magical journey into the way of Wicca.
many thanks
blessed be.

Advice that was given me when I started on my Wiccan path was to read as much as you can, and then re read, and read some more. Amazon do some decent books, generally deborah lipp, doreen valiente, scott cunningham are pretty up there. Id stay away from any fluffy books produced by llywelyn though, and anything by a numpty called silver raven wolf!!

Hey Terramona
Don't diss Silver Raven Wolf too much! Yes, a tad on the fluffy side, but actually it was very good for me as a first read. While I wanted a fairly light overview, nothing too intense or scary, and just wanted to know 'could this be for me?'

Hi,
Yes Raven Silverwolf is a bit fluffy, but they can be a very good start if you are unsure what it is you want at the moment. The best thing is to read a broad range of books rather than getting stuck in one particular type. That way you get a better view of what you are doing and how you can do it.
I hope this helps, and give your local library a look, coz they have a lot normally.
Blessings and may your new path go well for you.

Not all llywelyn books are that fluffy, there're some good ones out there, you just need to find the right authors.
And like dusty angel's said, read a wide variety of books, silver ravenwolf and llywelyn books can be balanced out by books by the Farrars, doreen valiente, and kate west
Bright Blessings!

Books I'd reccomend are: The Wicca Bible by Ann-Marie Gallagher, The real witches' handbook and the real witches' craft by Kate West, The witches' Bible by Janet and Stuart Farrar (more towards the Alexandrian tradition, but a good book to build the foundations of ritual on), Witchcraft for Tomorrow by Doreen Valiente Have a go at these and see what you think

I have just started reading and reading as much as possible and although I am still in the very early stages of understanding wicca rules, traditions and wicca as a religion I was hoping someone could help me out in the area of anointing oils.
Once I have studied a lot more and have gone through the initial stages,(as per the Wicca Bible) and I believe and feel that Wicca is my chosen path I will carry out my self initiation.
My question is "Which annointing oil is best for this" and also are there any self initiation rituals that anyone can recommend???
Many thanks for your help,
K9

Hi Dafydd Incidently you have the same name as my BIL from West Wales I (in my old age) am exploring this path too, I have chosen Kate West to read, I find her easy to follow and understand. I tried Silver Raven Wolf, and whilst her books are excellent, due to my illness, I found it quite hard going on occassions as sometimes it's difficult for me to absorb information, hence why I like Kate West, plus she is in the UK and SRW is in the USA and I wanted things from a UK perspective. www.livingspirits.co.uk

Just a quickie on Silver... her history's terrible, and she encourages teens to lie and go behind their parents' backs in her book Teen Witch. Would you really feel comfortable reccommending an author like that to someone new on the path? Once you know enough to be able to laugh whenever she claims that millions were killed during the Burning Times, then maybe she can give a different perspective on things.
The Fararrs are definitely worth a read. Their book 'A Witches' Bible' is heavy-going in places, but it's a really good book especially if you're interested in more traditional aspects of Wicca.
Kate West is a fantastic author ^.^
I also recommend Ann Moura's Green Witchcraft series. It's a more natural approach to the Craft, and whilst not strictly Wicca, if you enjoy working with herbs and plants, you should certainly give her a read.
If you're interested in traditional Gardnerian Wicca, read books by Gerald Gardner and Doreen Valiente.
Also, books on mythology are useful! Try to get hold of these at you library before buying them though, as some will be easier to read and absorb than others. Do try to know who you're calling before you call Them!
Good luck on the Path and blessed be!

Oooh, sounds like she just up my street, I have set out on the solitary path, so I don't have anyone to ask/discuss things with which can be difficult ontimes. I have my own paranormal/new age forum now, but there is no one on there who I can ask, as non of the members follow the craft (unfortunately ) www.livingspirits.co.uk

hi Dafydd, i dont no that much as am also new to craft, but i will help you as much as i can!
tools-things such as athames (ceremonial knives/swords used to draw power),books right from an information book such as the wicca bible, right down to your book of shadows (special diary used for recording your spells, rituals, monpahases etc.)
altars-sacred space for magickal workings/rituals/prayers etc. you can also customize them to the sabbats.
candles-silver for the goddess, gold for the god, yellow for the east, green for the north, red for the south and blue for the west. also include a correspending colour for spells such as green for a wealth spell. crystals-come in many shapes and sizes and can be used for promoting confidence, love, or just general healing. you can make an elixer from them by leaving a crystal in water (check that the crystal can be placed in water first!) overnight and drunk the next day.
i think thats enough for 2day, but if you need any more help/info, you know where i am!
brightest blessings, love and light )O(

Hey I know this is a few months late but the book I've found the most useful is called "Where to park your Broomstick" by Lauren Manoy. It's great for teens who are seriously starting out in Wicca, tells you all the basics, and even some complicated stuff like how to explain it to your parents.
