Hi everyone,

Just asking for people's opinions for my mum.
Last night, while sleeping (as you do) she aparently noitced 2 cats walking on the bed, one settling itself above her head and the other on her chest, I assume she had woken up at this point, but I'll add more detail later when I get a chance to ask her.
She said she stroked the one on her chest and could feel it's fur and one licked her face as well. She said they had similar markings to our last cat, before he unfortunately passed away, and she thinks that one of them could've been him and another the cat she had before that.

She ended up getting all worried thinking they were psychopomps (spirits to guide you to the other side), but that doesn't seem likely as she isn't dead and is in good health.

To me, she was either having a very odd dream, or, they were infact the spirits of her last two cats coming to say 'hi', or, which I'm swaying more towards, they were an appearance of her animal spirit guide(s).

So, anyway, what does everyone else think? any opinion is greatly appreciated and it'll help my mum work it out lol!

oh! as a sidenote, I should mention that she has seen/felt/experienced apparitions of cats before, until now they've been pets that she's owned, shortly after they had passed away. Maybe thy were spirit guides assuming their form? or the actual spirit of the cat? or maybe my mum's cats are her spirit guides?

::UPDATE:: aparently my mum isn't sure whether she was awake or not, but I think she was either in the hypnagogic state (the bit between asleep and awake), or the 1st stage of sleep. She also said she went to the bathroom later on, and they weren't there anymore, but when she got back into bed, after about 5 minutes they'd come back.

let me know what you think :)

Bright blessings!

Hello Howler,

From what you are saying I'd lean towards the guide side of it, rather than simple spirits. More for the fact that this keeps happening and she has seen them before. It maybe that the cat is also her totem, which I'm sure you can find more about in detail from books.

I hope that is of help.

Thanks D.A,

I was leaning towards that explanation, it's probably likely that her guides are taking on the appearance of pets she's had because they'd be seen as friendly and soothing etc.

And yeah, a cat's likely her totem, she's always had a thing for cats, so have I actually, they tend to have a weird thing for me lol!

BB!

My brother has had a very similar experience to this. Every weekend he'd stay at my cousin's house, and they had a cat, who would invariably lie next to him at night. Tragically, the cat was killed in a car accident. After this, my brother said that he would often feel (be able to stroke) the cat, and would see a sort of haze of it.

I'll have to get more detail from him because I'm curious now!

It's not actually unusual for someone to continue to see and feel their pets after they have passed. I've heard of it a lot of times, and when my eldest cat that I grew up with died, he too used to appear in the same old places he used to lie in the house.

A lot of people think it's purely because you get so used to seeing them, that you subconciously see them and your brain then makes you think you can feel them.

However that doesn't explain when people see and feel their pets, before they know they have died. Which happens a heck of a lot. I know three people in my tiny social circle who have lost dogs and cats in accidents and before they are even notified of their pets death, have them on their beds, laps, hear them barking/meowing. So there's got to be something there that is real. After all you can't make up something before you know it's missing.

I know I believe in the afterlife and everything that goes with it. Seeing spirits has become part of my life. But it's nice to know others see them too, even if they are sometimes skeptical.
