What is the difference between a pentagram and a pentacle? Its been confusing me for ages now!

Someone may correct me on this but...

A pentacle is a five pointed star witha circle around it.

A pentagram has no circle.

thanks, yes thats what I thought, but Ive seen lots of stuff that I though was a pentacle but is labled pentagram....

it can be confusing as the pentacle is a five pointed star with a single point facing upright.a written or drawn pentacle is a pentagram.in rituals and magick the pentacle is a round disk of earthenware,wax,silver or clay.it is inscribed with magick symbols including a pentagram and is used to consecrate the magick circle.some witches may wear a pentacle as a sign of their religion.the pentagram is the witches symbol of power and protection and used to control elemental forces,pentagrams are usually drawn in the air with a sword,the method used to draw the pentagram depends on its purpose.
