When engaging in such practice it is important to raise your vibrational rate as high as possible. Do this via guided pathworking or guided meditation and progressive relaxation exercises. Burning appropriate incenses and decorating the temple area in coressponding colours etc can also help. It is also important to understand that guides or any spirit may communicate in very subtle ways at first. Try feelig for changes in the atmosphere etc. Keep your mind open to symbols and the like that may appear. Many people enter such endevours expecting a little voice to suddenly start talking to them. This usually doesnt happen. Also use exercises that activate and stimulate the energy centres of perception. The Mystic Marriage is one such exercise. Start by entering into a light meditative state and perform a relaxation exercise. Bring your attention to the third eye and envision the area glowing with crystalline light. Inhale slowly feeling the area warm and glow brighter. Hold the breath for a count of ten and then release. Repeat three times. You may experience some energy movement, I feel this as pressure on the area accompanied by a static like tingling. Next inhale and draw the light back from the third eye to the crown centre. As you do this see a rainbow of light connecting the two centres. See the light at the crown centre and repeat the inhalation,ten count, exhale. Repeat the breathing method three times. With an inhalation draw the light to the throat centre, again connecting the crown/throat with a rainbow bridge. Again repeat the breath count for three cycles. Draw the light from the throat to the heart again connected by the bridge. Repeat breathing for three cycles. Now inhale for a ten count but see and feel the energy at all centres intensify. Repeat three times. Now complete the circuit by making a rainbow bridge from the heart to the the third eye. Again visualize all the centres shining brightly connected by the rainbow bridges. Repeat and hold for as long as desired, I would recommend at least five minutes. Perform this exercise daily. If you do find yourself meeting a spirit always remember to question it. Give it difficult questions. Ask if it comes in service from the divine and is the highest guide you can work with at this time. If it really is a guide and not an imposter/lower entity it will not mind as asking questions shows you are serious and wont be fooled or be easy to manipulate. You may also try shamanic techniques. They are too detailed to go into here however books by Michael Harner or John Matthews will give you a good starting point.
