how long have you had the athame? if you've had it only a short while maybe it's not the right one for you, I would suggest maybe handling a few before buying to get a feel for it

also where did you get it?

It's very very unlikely that it'll be cursed, if it's second hand then it's likely to be vibrating with the same enegy as the previous user, if you bought it from a store and a lot of people were likely to have handled it, it could have picked up the vibration of many people over time.

Wherever you got it, I would recommend giving it a good old spiritual cleansing, consecreated water, incense etc etc, then give it a full ritual consecration/blessing.

I've read that it's best to sleep with an athame under your pillow, or keep it close to you, or at least handle it for some time, for about 6 weeks, that way it'll pick up your vibrations and should feel better

a simple cleansing with the elements should do the trick. it might have been filled with a negative energy but with the cleanseing it should rid it. Use sage and salt and water. many blessings.
