Hi i don't know if this belongs in this forum. where the start see what happened is the my neighbours has contacted my landlords and reported that my tree in my garden has dropped twigs in his garden(it was one twig) so my landlords have come and chopped about 40% of the tree down. see we asked them to turn the music down and now they are getting there own back that's what they say. But she was a healthy tree. So i am upset poor thing she has been there for over 70 years the have nearly killed her.

That's very sad, it does sound a little like tit-for-tat, but perhaps you may yet save your tree, spend some time meditiating if you can, and make physical contact with the tree when you can. Hopefully the situation with your neighbours will improve with time, but sadly some people are just too selfish. We have the same trouble with our neighbours, causing us to consider moving home it's so bad. I wish you well, you have my every sympathy. BBx

Your tree may be fine ,, because the sap has gone down and the tree is dormant, then it has a greater chance of survival,, the dryads wont be very happy with those who chopped at the poor tree though,,, i have to have my beautiful silver birches lopped off at the top because they will just crack. from ground level and be. totally destroyed but the man who is chopping them is a sensitive one and understands that i had to tell the trees that they wo.nt be harmed and that it would protect them ,, other people may have thought me a nut but who cares ?? I hope your trees will come back to life with the spring and that your silly neighbours will grow (up) too ,, blessings xxx

Oh my goodness that is very sad. That is no way to get ones own back just coz they go told to turn the music down !! A tree should only be ever cut down if it is beyond repair from a natural disaster such as the wind blowing it too hard etc. I have a tree in my back garden and it looks a bit tatty , but that is only coz it hasn't been pruned so it doesn't have a lot of shape , but hopefully it'll get a spruce up in the Spring :) Old trees are beautiful in their own way and they always add a certain charm to a garden.
You could plant a fruit tree in your garden to give some "Company" to the other tree :)
Surround yourself with what you love, whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.".

Greetings Gillham.Mary,
I'm a bit late coming in on this debate but I do feel that neighbour issues are incredibly hard to cope with, especially when it encroaches on your beautiful tree.
I'm not sure if this is relevant to your situation but, legally, your neighbours can cut off any branches that hang over the wall into their garden. Howver, they are obliged to return the prunings to you as they remain your property if the tree is rooted in your garden.
I hope you find a peaceful resolution to this problem.
