Merry meet
I am a newcomer to the wiccan society, and I'm unbelievably confused as to what it really is? I've heard from many that it is what you make it, yet there is still gods and holydays, and so on. Is there any webpage (preferably), or book, or anything else, where I can learn the simple structure of the faith? Like the christians have the bible and the muslims have the quoran, don't wicca have something at least a little equivelent, or is it just a lot of folklore, bound together in one belief?
Please enlighten a lost soul!

Welcome, you will find much in the way of enlightenment here, there are many with much experience. There are good articles posted on the homepage of this site, also try Googling the Pagan Federation. Wicca is a fairly new belief system, based on what we think are ancient beliefs, sadly much of what has gone before is now lost in the mists of time, all we can do is attempt to reconstruct what we feel to be valid and respectful towards the ancient pantheons of the Divine. There is loads of information available, you just need to hunt it out. I found a general Google search of 'Wicca' turned up loads of useful sites, and gave me much to ponder and learn. Our friends here will help to guide you! BBx

Merry meet Tails1942! I'm not surprised you're confused with regard to what is Wicca and what isn't, there are so many definitions/traditions/interpretations it's a bit crazy. "Neo-Wicca" is the flexible, "whatever you make it" style of Wicca, usually eclectics who borrow from lots of different paths to make a practice they're comfortable with. People pick their own Gods, holidays, rites of passage etc. "Traditional Wicca" or "British Traditional Wicca (BTW)", is a more rigid, formal way of practising. Gardnerian and Alexandrian Wicca are the two most popular paths, and the oldest. Authors such as Janet and Stewart Farrar, Gerald Gardner, Doreen Valiente, Alex Sanders and Kate West are good authors to read with regard to these traditions. Gardner's own Book of Shadows is the nearest equivalent of a 'Holy Book' in Wicca, as all members of a Gardnerian Coven have to copy it out, and they do their rituals and spells from this book (as far as I know, I'm not an initiated Gardnerian so can only say what I've read myself!) This Page gives examples of many different Wiccan traditions and more information on them too.

Merry Meet, Are you perhaps looking at Wicca on a whim !! or are you really looking for the path ? there are many paths to follow and many books to read, all you need is the will to look and learn also the team here at pagan dreams, are a mine on information. Amazon are a good source and of course the web. but the effort has to come from you. good luck on your quest.

Just to confuse you, I don't class myself as wiccan at all, if I have to give myself a label, then I suppose solitary witch would best describe me, as my path isn't a religeous one per se' though I do honour the lady and lord. Best advice I can give you is, to follow your instincts, you won't go to far wrong by doing so. You may find yourself wandering down the druid path and like what you come to understand, there are no hard and fast rules, no 'bible' to follow, that's its beauty. I am currently studying Druidry and will most likely incorporate some of it into my craft at some point. Just put your trust in the Old Ones. www.livingspirits.co.uk

Hi
It seems to me that you are not relaly sure what is for you at the moment. Are you coming into wicca because of peer pressure or a fad type of thing? Or are you relaly called to it?? There are lots of people who go to wicca thinking its all Harry Potterish etc, but if you are really interested in it and its a religion that feels right to in the sence that you connect with it etc then you can look it up on Google!!
Wicca s a religion that is very much its own and there is no strict structure unlike the bible and its not a religion that is "spoonfed" to you, if you get what I mean:)
Surround yourself with what you love, whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.".
