I wonder if anyone knows of a way to get into contact with local covens? Is there a web site that helps put you in touch with covens in your area if so it would be a great help if anyone can point me in the right direction.

Have you tried searching for groups nearby on www.witchvox.com? They have extensive lists of covens, moots and other groups, and are the main way for Pagans and Wiccans to get in touch with groups, to my awareness.
