hi all,

just wondering what your views on the Celts and their lore and myth were BigGrin, and also, what would be the best way to go about learning/researching them?

hi applerose,

"The celts" are covering a wide range there. It depends on which ones you mean? Irish celts, welsh, scottish. . . you can get books on celtic magic and pantheons of their gods on amazon.

I personally love the irish gods, they have such complex family trees and their legends are amazing.

Hope I've helped.

Blessings

Dusty Angel x

The Celts are strong in some parts of Europe. I like the Irish celts best with their legends

Well we certainly have some interesting folklores. There have been roads rerouted here just so as not to upset faeries and leprechauns. Belief in Ireland is very strong and tradition and ceremony are high in most Irish minds no matter what your beliefs are. Oh, by the way, modern Ireland is not as bad as it is shown on TV.

Blessings All.

As an irish person myself, I adore the Celts and their lore and legends. When you visit the Irish sites of history, you can really feel that they are still alive in spirit and i find that truly inspirational and magical :)

Ok, I know this is an old thread, but I've not been here in a while and this has to be said, because I have also until recently been confused.

"The Celts" of the British Isles never existed. The word originated from a word used by the Romans describing the collective people of inland Europe and even parts of Asia, but never referred to the people of Britain. The people here were known as the Britons, and those of Ireland were called something else entirely.

The reason the word "Celt" is used is due to the Celtic Revival of the 1800s, where various politicians attempted to quell the tensions between English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish by trying to unite us with a common heritage, which we do have. But they weren’t Celts. The culture you all admire is one and the same, but the word describing it as Celtic is false.

I’m not trying to upset anyone, and I pride myself on my heritage (I am both of English and Irish descent), but apparently the use of the word is incorrect. I’m a practising Wiccan and very dedicated to my faith, but I’m also an archaeology student, and the ties between the two are completely fascinating. If you want more information, here’s a book by one of my lecturers. I promise, he doesn’t erase the heritage we all appreciate. He just shows that it is incorrectly named.
