Hi im new here, i was just looking for a bit of advise really.

My son is 4 years old and im pretty sure he has some kind of gift. Im just not sure what it is yet.

I swear sometimes he can read my mind. I could be reading a book in my head and get to a part about say trains and all of a sudden he will look up and ask me a question regarding trains.
I can have a song in my head and he'll start singing it aswell. He will tell me who is ringing on the phone before i answer it.

His memory is also amazing and he remembers things from when he was around 18months old.

Even when he was a baby I think he could sense me coming into his room.

Is this quite a common thing??

Sorry if this post rambles on a little bit. I just didn't know where else to talk about this as my friends don't understand and put it all down to coincidence. This has happened far to often to just be coincidence.

Hi Sazzy

well, to start, I'll have to go into a bit of psychological theory, but bare with me, it'll help the rest of the post make sense.

According to Carl Jung, the mind or psyche is made of three parts, the ego, the personal unconscious and the collective unconscious.

The ego is your waking, conscious mind

The personal unconscious which includes anything which is not presently conscious, but can be. The personal unconscious is like most people's understanding of the unconscious in that it includes both memories that are easily brought to mind and those that have been suppressed for some reason.

The collective unconscious is the interesting part, especially for people of metaphysical backgrounds or who have an interest in parapsychology. It's the store of our collective experiences as a species, a kind of knowledge we are all born with, like a psychic inheritance.

We're all born with the ability to sub-consciously tap into the collective unconscious and share each other's experiences, thoughts and emotions. But, as we get older, we forget how to do this because of the way we're brought up. We're not encouraged to try and tap into the collective unconscious on a more conscious level.

However, we're still able to recieve information from our personal and collective unconsciousnesses through dreams and visions (Jung says the unconscious parts of our psyche talk in symbols, hence why dreams and visions rarely make any superficial sense).

So, after that long and for some rather pointless essay on Jung's psychodynamic theory, I can get to my point! BigGrin

What it seems to me, is that your son is ver receptive to the messages of the collective unconscious. Now, I don't know how he's percieving the information from the collective unconscious, it's likely though that it'll be in probably quite simple symbols, like, you were reading about trains, and possibly the image of a train flashed into his head, or the tune of a song that you were thinking about, or the face or name of someone phoning could cross his mind without him really knowing why.

So, your son is gifted in a sense that he is open to his intuition and lets it guide him, and is also open to the psychic messages of the collective unconscious, and so he has a gifted psychic ability! Smile

now though, it's up to you whether you want to encourage that ability or let it do whatever it'll naturally do in the course of time.

Bright Blessings!

Thankyou so much for your reply. The information about jungs theory was really interesting and helped me understand a little better.

Im not sure what would be best. How can I encourage his ability?

I have never acted suprised or made an issue of it when he does things such as tells me who is calling on the phone so im not sure he knows that not everyone can do these things. Thankyou again for your help xxxxx :)

I'm glad I was able to help Smile

if you were to actively try to encourage it, the best way I can think of is to let it run it's natural course, but encouraging him if he correctly knows who's phoning, or what song you're thinking of, of what you happen to have in your mind. Just make sure he knows it's not a bad thing, even if he doesn't know that other people can't do it Smile

Bright Blessings!
