I was just wondering if you have to have a special ability to be able to see ghosts, spirits etc. as I know there are many Witches that have seen/spoke to them and I haven't!! It isn't that I really want to see one, I was just wondering if anybody could see them if they tried. I was also wondering if they can hurt you as, I admit I am a little scared if I ever do come across one!!

Morning WW. Believe me, you have more to fear from the living, than the dead, I have seen 2, the first was when I was about 3-4 years of age, the second approximately 18 months ago. hi Water wiccan, you don't have to have strong second sight as if a ghost wants you to see it, it'll show itself to you. However, those who are born with a prominent second sight are usually able to see ghosts and other spiritual entities whether they want to or not (such as Dusty Angel from these forums), also, as I said already, if a ghost or spirit wants to show itself to you it will, and some people may naturally draw them so they see them more often. As dark angel has already said there's vey little to worry about, as ghosts have no corporal body so can't physically affect you, but they may be able to affect you on spiritual and mental planes if they choose to so it's generally a good idea, if a ghost or spirit starts communicating with you, to be quietly cautious and build a relationship with it and get to know it

Can I just add, whatever you do, be sure treat them with all due respect like you would another living person, just because they have crossed over doesn't give anyone the right to shout, scream, hurl abuse at them, threaten, or make demands of them, they can be frightened too.

I am very pleased to here it, but no doubt you too have seen some 'paranormal' shows on TV where they carry on like a bunch of raving lunatics.

i aggree with the others.some ghosts who have built up enough energy can affect electrical equipment but cant hurt you.they may try to like the one who visted me a while ago tryed to strangle me and my grandad who passed away come infront of us and protected me.Knowing a poltergeist can harm pepole.if you ever see a ghost treat it as you would treat your mum and dad.if a ghost asks for your help to move on ask them if they see a light and get them to move into the light or see if something is holding them here,if something is holding them back the become earthbound spirts and thats when they will show themselfs to you. if an evil spirit trys to harm you and you can cast spells cast this.
"ashes to ashes"
spirit to spirt
take their soul
banish this evil.
but only cast this spell if you really need to as i said above about the ghost who tried to attack me i cast that spell and it worked.Dont forget ghosts are all around us and only show themselfs when they want to.

and what is your source that a real witch was writing the spells? And for [i]your[/i] information, it takes more than just saying a few words for magick to work
And it's very unlikely that the charmed ones are real, as I'm sure any witch out there will tell you (probably less polite than this) that there's no such thing as white lighters and orbing, no-one can freeze time with just a wave of their hand, or levitate with that much ease. If they were real I'm sure the pagan community would know about it, that and the presence of charmed style demons

At the end of the day, Charmed is a TV series, based very loosely on Wicca for entertainment value. I have no doubt, that like where they use real Doctors etc to advise on proceedure in Hospital drama's they have someone with knowledge on board to point them in the right direction on Charmed, just to give the show some credibility. The same can be said for Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Sebrina, the teenage Witch, though older members will remember Bewitched, which started out in B/W, that nose of hers was amazing  Basically, as long as you believe in what you are saying, that's what counts.

well, somethings aren't possible, and generally witches accept that. I mean, no spell can turn you from human to animal, or make you literally invisible, or help you fly (without transport) or anything like that. Magick is still bound within the laws of physics and what is realistically possible.
And I will say that [i]some[/i] of the stuff on charmed is known to be true, such as in the all halliwell's eve episode, about the herbs they use, that is known to be true, won't have that dramatic an effect though.
There probably are some people out there who call themselves the charmed ones, and if they are witches, and openly say they're the charmed ones, then it's doubtful that the pagan community will take them seriously as it's based on a tv show and they will just be seen as wannabe witch fans of the show.

Some people are born more sensitive to spirits and can feel them more easily. Others have to develop their skills to be able to see/feel them.

Everyone has the ability so dont worry if you cannot see them, you will in due time, when the time is right for you They cant hurt you, they can annoy the hell out of you also try and scare you, but they wont wanna hurt you...Well the ones that I see do...

I've always been able to feel them strongly and occasionally I catch glimpses of things like hands, eyes and as a child could hear them speaking, I used to have problems sleeping and would often hear a voice singing a lullaby to me that was not my mum. Since then I've lost touch with hearing them properly but I can see them as shadows with vague features. I can also feel them if they touch me, which is a strange sensation.
Most spirits are harmless and are not to be feared. So don't worry if you come across one. There are those that may attempt to do harm but I've found that a protection spell can help against them.
There are ways to see them, close your eyes and focus on the spirit and count to 10 in your mind. Sometimes this works, but don't do it unless you know that the spirit means no harm. I don't know how it works but I assume that you lend energy to them to make them stronger or something. You can count backwards to undo this. It was advised to me by a friend because spirits seem to follow me constantly, most of them are friendly.

I have never heard of the count to 10 you mention, I have a group of PI's on my forum and the psychics there have never done anything like that. Obviously, you need to protect yourself, also, you need to learn how to close yourself off to spirit otherwise it can become very draining being pestered all the time.

Just like to say hello to everyone and i have read the posts with interest.
I was born into a spiritual family,i was told that i was born with a brown cross on my forehead and everyone thought it would be my birth mark, yet after 3 weeks it disppeared! I saw my first spirit at age 4 who used to come and visit me quite often, she was a small girl who had died in the vicinity.After that i saw each of my paternal grandparents as they passed away and my maternal grandfather.
I then developed into seeing animals that had passed, which became embarrassing sometimes as i thought they were still living and were ppls pets!
Then i progressed to dreams which always foretold something or would give me a message.After this i graduated into hearing something like a radio and having my deceased grandmother shouting my name at times when i have felt a little down.
I have performed house cleansings and also attended some seances and spiritual evenings.
I used to see my gift as a curse but it has helped me and comforted me in so many times in my life when i needed something or someone and i know that i am being protected and looked after.I also get a few messages occassionally of white feathers and i know my guardian angels are around!
I have sensed bad spirits but as soon as i have said my protective prayer and used my pendulum,it has passed.
I agree with the sentiment that you have to be more afraid of the living than the deceased,for the living can do more harm.
I love all things spiritual and i never turn my back on my various gifts anymore, i learnt a valuable lesson and i never take any aspect of spirituality for granted.
I wish all those here peace and love and thankyou for posting so that myself and others could read what you have written,
