Ok, I suffer with FM (Fybromialgia) have done so for more than 20 years now and there are days when it's all I can do to crawl out of bed. I have been told meditation might help with relaxation and pain, but try as I might, I can't seem to do it, I was given a chakra booklet and cleansing CD for christmas, but the woman's voice drives me daft, I have also tried the usual tapes with the Indian music on (eastern)and also native american, but don't like that either. Can anyone suggest anything that might help, I do like harp music and wolves howling, lol, (yes, I know, I'm odd) The only place I feel at peace is in my forest, in my sacred space when I am with my dog, but it's getting harder to reach that special spot as I walk with crutches usually, but if I with Rexx can only use the one. On the plus side, I usually come away feeling happy, with no pain and feeling and looking a heck of a lot younger. www.livingspirits.co.uk

Hi Dark Angel,
Have you tried meditating with photos of your sacred spot as a focus? Sometimes it does take time to be able to switch off and settle into a meditative state.
Also I'd recommend doing very short sittings for a while. So don't go for a really long session to begin with. Build up to the longer ones, and I wouldn't use CD's as I've always found they distract rather than focus.
Apart from that you could try letting your dog give you a hand. It sounds like the two of you are pretty close, you could try sitting with him and as a way of calming yourself into a meditative state you could try stroking his fur. The repeatition of the act may help you to focus and when you come out of it you should hopefully feel a lot better.
I hope that helps. Aside from that maybe a crystal healer might be able to help.
Blessings, Dusty Angel x

Bless you for replying, Rexx is a German Shepherd and I am lucky that sometimes he does enjoy a 'cwtch' as we say in Wales (Hug) but they are few and far between, he always gets on my bed first thing in the morning when I make a cup of tea, he gives me a reason to get up when the pain is bad because he needs to be fed, given his meds etc. I will certainly try what you suggested and let you know how I get on. www.livingspirits.co.uk

Hi Dark Angel I also suffer from Fibromyalgia and have found Reiki to be a wonderful subsitute for taking pain killers (which I find don't really help), as Dusty Angel suggested - Crystal Therapy can also make a big difference as can Reflexology. I try to use a combination of alternative therapies and meditation and have now managed without any drugs for almost 2 years. I'm very lucky as both me and my daughter are therapists so I don't have to pay for treatments. If you find Reiki helpful it might be worth you getting attuned to Level 1 or even Level 2 and then you can treat yourself wherever or whenever you need to.
Good luck in finding a meditation CD that doesn't drive you bonkers, some of them are very irritating! I personnaly like the drumming ones or nature sounds so it's worth looking around. If you really want to use a CD, you could even try making up your own using the sounds that you find particularly restful
I wish you well, it's an unpleasant condition (to say the least) and because you can't 'see' it people don't always have much patience when you are suffering!
Bright Blessings

Thank you Chris, It is very frustrating as you say, because mostly you look completely normal, I however, have been reduced to walking with crutches because of it for more years now than I care to remember. I agree about painkillers, they are a waste of time mostly. Think I am going to explore other avenues, I know it can't be cured, but it sure would be nice to have it managable. Thanks for taking the time to reply, I appreciate it. www.livingspirits.co.uk

Hi Dark Angel
I had a bit of a brainwave for your meditation CD. Stupid I didn't think of it sooner really. Rather than search for a CD for meditation, have you looked for Native American CD's?
I got one from a local group from my old town, it was called Spirit Dance, and it is full of the music you said you liked. They include animals which are sacred to their culture, wolves included.
Unfortunately mine got busted in my move from Essex to Bucks, or I'd offer to send you the name etc. But I'm sure you can find some of the same stuff on the internet somewhere.
Sorry, I'm babbling now. But I hope it helps. Blessings D.A. x
