Seeing auras is great fun and gives an insight to current state fo mind health etc., here are a few tips that may work for you.

1. Relax your mind but keep it open. Cleanse your body by drinking a glass of water
2. Try to get the person to stand in front fo a light coloured wall
3. Like the magic eye pictures, try to extend your vision beyond the individual
4. Don't try too hard or strain your eyes. Remember to blink
5. See the colour or layers of colours eminate from the body. You may only see one colour to start with so don't worry. You may see twinkling lights, you aren't going mad it is simply spirit being present
6. Don't spend too long, only a couple of minutes each day and once you become adept and skilled you can just look at people and see their auras and the colours, any gaps, blockages etc

The lights you are seeing are spirits who have come to visit you or your mum. As you develop your psychic skills spirit will allow you to see them in different forms dependant on how you have developed such as;

Clairvoyant - Seeing spirit in physical form, sometimes just a shape, colours or black adn white

Clairessentience - Feeling spirit in different ways - shape and form, disfigurements, illnesses, feelings of joy or doing something such as cleaning, cooking, writing etc

Clairaudience - hearing spirit communicate

None of this is scary but I have found a wonderful gift given to me bu spirit when i was a small child, I am lucky and spirit communicate with me in all three forms, many mediums have only one gift.

Sometimes spirit allow us the gift for a short period of time sometimes longer as long as we use the gift in the manner it is supposed to. In a kind and compassionate way and if it is rude or scary don't communicate it across to the listener.

Local spiritualist open circles are a good way to start, they don't follow any religion and are not part of the god squad.
