If they're second hand I wouldn't bother since they will be tuned to whoever has been using them - they can of course be cleansed, but is it worth it to save a couple of pounds - you'll never be sure they are giving you an accurate reading.

completely agree - i have a pack of cards that i was given - but i cannot use them as i cant attach myself to them. Also - when you have a new pack, you open it to the air and touch them - you are (except for the manufacturer) the first person to touch them! You given them a quick cleansing and begin building a bond or relationship with them. For ages i pondered around the robin wood deck, i thought they were very modern and pretty looking, but thought to myself - i should try and start with a traditional deck and tried my best with a cheap pack i got from woolworths, then i had a celtic pack bought for me - but again i couldnt get in to them. So i went and i bought myself a pack of rider waite - they are nice enough - but again i still wanted the robin wood cards. I asked for them off my mother for christmas - they were my choice as i picked them off the shelf - but given to me with love from my parents. The bond i have with this pack - is amazing! I should have bought them to start and saved myself over £50. I now have angel cards and ascended masters cards etc. But i use them in conjunction with my robin wood. I love my tarot cards dearly :) and i hope they age with me :)

Thanks for that. I was pondering about buying them as in the back of my mind it kept saying 'no don't buy' but was'nt too sure why so thought I would check with people that know what their talking about.
I supose its best to buy new and start with a clean slate.
Thanks for your replies, everyones really great on this site. I would be lost without this site as everyone is so helpful.

Blessed be xx

I have heard of buying 2nd hand cards is NOT wise, rather pay for the new pack so it receives your energies. I love a couple of packs and I believe these packs are bonding with me already!

Amazing and thanks to Pagan Dreams for my Old Path deck....looks lovely

I wouldnt buy second hand tarot cards - the only time i would have second hand cards is if they were passes to me from a family member, someone close, or a teacher. I have also heard that you shouldnt buy them for yourself. Youll have to give the money to someone else to get them for you. xx Good Luck

Tried Tarot, I was useless at it, on the other hand, I have tried other cards with some success (Well Worn Path, Druid Aniamal & Druid Plant Oracle to name but a few) www.livingspirits.co.uk

I would never buy a second hand set of cards.
I have always had my tarot sets brought for me and always got a bond with them and they have always worked for me.
I have always heard that tarot cards should always be brought for you.
Bless you Mollyee

I wouldn't buy a second hand set of cards either but I did buy my own cards and to be honest I'm very in tune with them and they work well for me and when I do readings for other people. I did wait until I found a pack that I wanted to buy, I didn't go looking to buy a set on the day I bought them but they found me.
I think each to his or her own, in my humble opinion if you are drawn to a particular pack and feel that they are right for you why not buy them.
I'm sure some of you will disagree but I can say it worked well for me.

I dont see anything wrong with buying a second hand tarot deck, all I would do is cleanse and meditate with them and maybe carry them around with you until you feel they have bonded with you and taken on your energies.

Exactly, you use what you feel is right for you and if that means pre-owned, it doesn't matter. www.livingspirits.co.uk

I have several decks that I use. I usually get the best results with the first deck that I pick up. . . Sacred Raven - Pagan T Shirts

I was always led to believe to receive tarot cards as a gift was a great blessing. As for myself personally i wouldnt buy second hand tarot cards or receive them from someone who had actually used them as they would have negative influences on the cards. Maybe i am wrong but blessed be to thee.

i haven't dont tarot readings or anything and i don't think its for me , but then again what do i know since i haven't tried it!! i personnaly wouldn't like to get second hand cards from someone i didn't know. I have a friedn who has a set of tarot cards which looked really nice (it was the back of the cards that attracted me most.. i dunno why tho) , but yeah i totally agree of not buying card second hand unless you are gifted them from someone you know and even then you shoudl still cleanse teh cards too to make them attune to your energies
