Still new to Wicca and getting my bearings but embracing it wholeheartedly....but I am a solitary practitioner and like it so. I am young, too young in some places to join a coven but there arent many near me anyway and I'm not sure I feel comfortable yet to be in that environment as my religion is very personal to me. (Will consider a coven in future however!) But after reading lots of texts, I noticed that one said you had to be instated by a coven to become a wiccan. Is this true and therefore am I not a proper wiccan until this has happened? Or can I have my own ceremony to instate myself by calling upon the God and Goddess?

Please help with any suggestions!

Bright Blessings

No you don't have to be a member of a coven, I don't think any of the members on my own forum who follow the Craft are, it a matter of personal choice, that the beauty of it.

Anyone who tells you otherwise, is wrong, I believe the Craft followers on mine did their own dedication ceremony and I intend doing my own in the near future.

As a solitary, you are as much of one as any coven member.

Incidently, some coven members are solitary too, though how they can say that, beats me, however, each to their own.

Hello Valerian Moon, I know this is a bit late but I thought I'd add my own 2 cents!

You do not have to be a member of a coven. I have been a solitary for 6 years and have had no desire to join a coven. Being a solitary has advantages because you can learn in your own time and do rituals in a way that makes you feel comfortable.
I performed my own dedication ceremony- (with help from a book by Kate West, whom I would definatly recommend for beginners.) It's entirely up to you how you want to be initiated. Smile

I found Jan McDonalds Cottage Witchcraft the most help, especially for the self dedication.

I have all of Kate Wests books, they are written with covens in mind but she says you can use them as a solitary, however too elaborate for me.

My Craft is very simple. If you want some books recommended, there are quite a few on my forum.

You will find them HERE(recommended reading & more books)

Hope that helps.

Blessings.

Prompt, reasonable shipping time! Really love my order, I ordered a charm but am using it as a pendant as I was looking for something small & delicate. Thanks for the lovely item & reasonable shipping time so I didn't have to wait for Weeks for my order. Thanks!

Having recieved my order from you today I would like to offer very positive feedback. It is for my daughters birthday (which I ordered late and didn't expect it to arrive in time) on Sunday so I am really pleased how fast you sent it out. The packaging was great and the pentegram met more than my expectations. I have just ordered another one for my Grandaughter and will definately be recommending you to my friends. Many thanks
