This will probably come over as ridiculous and very newbie-ish lol....which i guess it is. Ive been researching and getting interested in wicca for a few years now and am just really getting into it with all the customs, days, things for ur altar etc befvore i jump right in ...and wanted to know....how do u decide which god/goddess is to be ur main one?

i picked my deity's by need really like i was always bullied in school so i picked Hecate to protect me. and i picked Apollo because hes a light god where Hecate is darker goddess which inspired me to get a tattoo to represent that duality but i would suggest the research of the god or goddess because with mythology theirs always more then meets the eye.

My only experience has been with the Egyptian pantheon. With them I would say, *ask* if you may serve them before you ever ask for their help (lest you get the smackdown), and be prepared for some tough loving.

If you 'pick' an Egyptian deity and they roll with being picked, it's entirely possible you went with the Graeco-Roman version. Which I have no experience with either, I'm afraid :P


Your best idea is to go with someone you want to be most like. Like if I wanted to learn more self-control, to reign in my anger, and to be a positive force, I might make offerings to Sekhmet.
