Hello, I really need help. Some of you may know me as the 13 year old, but if you don't, you see, I have been interested in wicca since the age of around 10 - 11 and I have read tons of books on it. I know a quite a lot about Wicca (for my age), and I know that to become a real Witch you need to have studdied for 1 year and 1 day so I am starting on Wednesday 31st (so then next years, new years day I will be a real witch). But I need to know a few things first and was wondering if you could help me: 1: Do you need to study something every single day? 2: Can you still do rituals and spells etc, while in studying time (in the time of the 1 year and 1 day)? 3: Can you study certain things each month (eg: January: The 8 sabbats), or do you need to study Wicca overall for the 1 year & 1 day? Some people think I'm too young to make this decision, but I feel I am ready. I have already studied / read about Wicca for more than a year and and 1 day and I have brought lots of books on it but I want to studdy again but this time knowng that I am doing it for 1 year and 1 day to become a real Witch, if this make sense to you . . . ;0) Thank you for you help and support, The 13 year old ;0) **)O(** Blessed Be **)O(**

To start off the year and a day is only recommended if your entering a coven and going threw the different degrees of initiation but as a solitary witch you don't need to prove you have the knowledge just along as you know the basics, but i do recommend you study well and learn alot. if you are set on the year and one day i will answer your questions, 1) you dont need to study every single day its more of a guild line. 2)i would suggest not to do rituals or spells apart from simple celebrations of the sabbats so it dose not interfere with your studying 3)it dosnt matter if you want to do it as set subject each year as you will be studying for years to come. hope i helped you BB BMW

Firstly I think it is admirable, the commitment that you are showing at such a young age. However what I am about to say will no doubt twist a few knickers out there. What I am of course referring to is your age. Now it is a well publicized fact that most if not all groups involved in occult practices (At least those in good standing) will not accept members under the age of eighteen and some will only take those over twenty one. Some people will no doubt be screaming about ageism or some other twaddle, however it is important that the reasons for such age restrictions are understood at least so as to make an informed choice. The practice of magic, especially in ritual format, is not only a mental and spiritual excercise, but also a physical one. When for example you invoke the elements at the quarters you are not inviting some objective ally into the space but tuning your sphere of sensation, aura, enaid whatever you want to call it into a specific force so that it finds a resonance within you. This will inevitably begin to manifest as psycho-spiritual and physical changes, the goal of which being the desire to balance the forces within. This is why, if the operator does not balance the elements etc, nuerosis and imbalance can manifest in the mind and body. Being only thirteen your body and mind has not reached maturity, and by participating in rituals or magical work you will be interfering with this process by introducing elements and forces that have no place in the being of one so young. As a comparative example the same can be said for young people who wish to start body building or weight training. If started too young the hormones etc released during the training can negatively impact on the still unmatured body and effect its growth and development. Of course this isnt to say that you cant start working on meditations, practice visualization etc, but my advice to you would be to avoid engaging in rituals or direct magical work. Remember there is no rush, the magical path is long and laborous. Magic is not something you do it is something you are. The fact of the matter is that no year and a day program can make you a 'real' witch, such things are trivial titles. Concentrate on your own development but put your mental, spiritual and physical well being first.

I am so glad that this forum exists for young learners such as yourself, and that you have asked it for help. Daniel is a very wise Wiccan and someone you should listen to as he is right to give you the advice he has. You can study Wicca all you like at whatever age, as you can study any other subject, however to be a witch is different from learning about it. Unlike other religions where you can be admitted from birth Wiccans acknowledge that children are too young to understand what they are committing to and that they need to be fully aware of the choices open to them. In addition to Daniel's advice I would suggest that you study other religions and their take on life in order that you come to Wicca with an informed mind. This will also stand you in good stead when people ask you why you chose to be a Wiccan and will give you an understanding of how Wicca differs from the beliefs of others who will question you in the future. Good luck in your studies. Keep an open mind to the beliefs of others, grow in confidence and understanding and, above all, tolerate those around you even if they misunderstand you. I look forward to welcoming you to our world in due course. Blessed Be. Tastra.

Just as a side note, i'm not actually a practitioner of wicca. I was trained in ceremonial magic but now incorporate the skills I learnt from that into a pagan system I have been developing myself. Thanks for the compliment though.
