To be honest I would avoid these instruments like the plague. 95% of experiences I have come across with the board are negative and much of the information that comes through is misleading or complete lies. Another problem with these boards is the risk of addiction. People who are not physically, mentally or spiritually prepared often get suckered in and once they open certain doors are not able to close them. DO NOT get involved with these things unless you are extremely experienced as they are not a game. If however you need to use the board you should ready an area and give it a thorough cleansing, both physically and astrally. A banishing ritual such as the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram or something similar is a must before the start of the session. Then I would erect a consecrated space i.e. casting a circle. Invocation of protective dieties is another must. Dont leave the space whilst engaing in the operation. Only invite beings of a high nature to the session. Take everything you hear with a pinch of salt and question everything. Also burn protective incenses. After you have finished always do a full banishing ritual again. and burn some banishing incenses. Also limit your use of the board to a certain time and length. Dont invite vulnerable people to participate in any session as the weakest are usually the people to get targeted by negative entities. Another point i will make is keep the board and use the board in the same place dont move it about. Choose a location and stick to it. Just out of interest why are you using the Ouija board?

Seeing as you are just starting out, most definitely dont consider going near the board. Casting circles and performing banishing rituals are the most important thing and the first thing you should learn when starting out on any magical path. You will often here people say 'oh thats so simple' but to say such a thing is to rob it of its importance and subtle intricacies. People who say such a thing have never performed it correctly and probably dont understand how fundamental such rituals are. Yes they are basic but not simple. When engaging in such rituals you will use around five common elements in unison. These are symbolism, gesture, voice, imagination and intention. Symbolism comes from the direction you will face, symbols you will use and other such aspects like colour, incense etc, whatever is used to help the subconcious to be fully emersed in the ritual. Gesture comes from the physical aspect of the ritual i.e. circumnavigating the alter and tracing shapes in the air. Voice comes from the use of invocation, evocation, prayer and vibration of names. Imagination comes from using visualization to manipulate nwyfre, chi, prana whatever your tradtion may refer to it as. By imagining symbols shapes and scenarios in the mind we thus set sublte energies in motion. When you can see, hear, feel and taste your mental images then the more effective this will be in ritual. Intention is the reason you are conducting the ritual, imprinting your goal on the etheric substance by concentration of will.
Until these things are studied and practiced then rituals will not be effective. As for casting a circle there are many ways to do this and are so numerous and easy to find repeating it here is not required. It will also depend on which tradition you follow. You will find however that the above mentioned aspects will be found in all methods. As with casting the circle, the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram can be found very easily. Once you have found these you will want to practice them everyday for at least six months and then very frequently after that. Practice visualization and meditation to help focus your mind. The magical path is very hard and requires many years training and study, there simply is not enough space or time to tell you all you need here. Seeing as your a total beginner I would seriously recommend reading the following books as they contain the above rituals plus a lot of information a beginner requires:

Modern Magick - Donald Michael Kraig
The Tree of Life - Israel Regardie
The Magical use of Thoughtforms - Dolores Ashcroft Nowicki, J.H. Brennan
Psychic Self Defence - Dion Fortune
Anything by John Michael Greer.

Of course read anything on the particular tradition you follow. The above books may not correspond with your tradition however they can be used by anyone involved in magic and contain fantastic practical information especially for someone just starting out.

No problem. Just think of magic as you would any other profession. Like a doctor there is much study and rehearsal before you can think of operating on patients, for magic the same amount of study and practice needs to be put in first.

All the best

Having recieved my order from you today I would like to offer very positive feedback. It is for my daughters birthday (which I ordered late and didn't expect it to arrive in time) on Sunday so I am really pleased how fast you sent it out. The packaging was great and the pentegram met more than my expectations. I have just ordered another one for my Grandaughter and will definately be recommending you to my friends. Many thanks
