Wicca relates to witchcraft based on principles about witchcraft that existed in Britain and Europe long before catholicism was imposed and was removed by the church during the medieval period. It is a religious philosophy based on the belief of magical abilites that are at our disposal and it wasnt until the 1920's that the Wiccan beliefs saw a comeback into many peoples lives. Paganism is directly related to Wicca except it is more involved with sanctity of life and compassion for living beings, and the use of incense and fragrance is more common whereas in Wicca the use of spells and ritual is common, although it is true that both religions are very similar in there view of life and of peace. Shamanism is related to the use of various techniques adopted by both pagans and wiccans such as dream recall, meditation, relaxation and astral projection. It is based primarily on spiritual teachings and is closely related to both Wicca and Pagan. Although an individual path is usually chosen, I find that I use aspects of all of the teachings to help me in everyday life, even though I am technically Wiccan, I use many pagan and shamanism techniques in order to help me with wiccan techniques, for example, meditation helps me to prepare for spellwork and incense aids me in divination practise as well as playing an important role in ritual. The choice is yours, follow your heart, hope this helps, blessed be

Shamanism is an archaic technique of ecstacy and not a path for the feint hearted. having practised this art for thirteen years now I can assure you it is not as airy fairy as some would have us believe. The Shaman is born a Shaman and one can never really become such as initiates are selected by Authentic traditions & family history. During Initiation one becomes involved in confronting deep aspects of the hidden self which are often surpressed, this includes our darker aspects which have to be healed. A true Shaman follows a twenty two year Initiation process and becomes skilled in many things, healing, magickal Combat and the use of Psychtropic plants. Not an easy Path to walk but very rewarding when one finds the rewards for efforts. The Shaman withdraws from society to be taught directly by nature and her many spirits. it is unfortuanate that the modern world view prefers to see Shamanism as American Indian Influences, this is but a small part of a greater whole. I hope this helps you gain a deeper understanding and wish you every success with your choices.

Shamen are born not made. I agree. Family / initiation only, I disagree. Some are drawn to Shamanism without direct family history, at least traceable history, that is. Their path is no less valid for this. To say otherwise is to claim an exclusivity bordering on egomania. You can find lots of information on the net and from books etc on different paths. Good luck with this and try to take some time, none of us become experts overnight, you have a lifetime to explore. Enjoy the search. Love Gez.
