It's not a daft question. If you don't know something then it's never daft! I don't let people hold my cards. The only contact I allow people to have with them is to shuffle them up, and even then it's on the cloth I use. I never let them pick them up, just muddle them up. I will allow them to pick the cards they wish, depending on the spread I'm doing, but only by sliding them out of the line spread keeping them on the cloth. But mainly I prefer to keep my cards away from others hands. Otherwise I find I can't read them properly for ages after. Keeping them on the cloth which I stitched myself keeps them in my energies and keep out the negativities.

The problem I came across the first time I did a reading was that the person I was reading for had been to another person in the past. The previous tarot reader had made her hold them for a certain amount of time before the reading. I had to explain that everyone has their different ways of doing things and that's not how I do things. As long as the results work for you, don't change your views because of someone else. That's when things go wrong. If you find your cards don't feel right after try another way. But if you decide that you don't want people to hold your cards tell them before they enter the room for the reading that way they know what to expect.
