We get asked more and more frequently about ways to protect yourself from negative vibes and the bad intents of other people - often the feeling is that of being deliberately jinxed or hexed.
This of course is possible, as magick can be used for both good and bad, but sometimes we find it can be a self-induced effect - perhaps triggered by some genuine bad luck at a time when you are already feeling down in the dumps. This can lead to an imbalance in your own natural protective energies and before long, you can feel the whole world is against you which can be really debilitating.
Even a short run of bad luck (which we all suffer from time to time) may leave you feeling positively 'got at', you begin to notice the most innocuous hiccups in your life, and read them as another omen of impending doom. Once in this frame of mind, you can literally act as a sort of 'bad luck' magnet, your own negative vibes attracting things to you.
The secret is to find some balance, to turn things round and get a new perspective. A simple 'Fortune reversing spell' may be all it takes to release the negative energy and start a positive upturn in your life.
It doesn't have to be complicated, just a small ritual that will help leave you feeling more in control of your own destiny and ready to move forward. Here is one we have used:
What you will need:
Some Sea salt
Lemon juice or Lemon Peel
A small black candle
Candle holder
A Small bowl spring water
A sharp Knife (be very careful when using this)
You need to start by taking a ritual bath, as this will clear your mind and help to get some focus.
THE RITUAL BATH
As you start to run the bathwater, place your fingers under the running tap. Breath in deeply, and as you do, visualise and focus on inhaling a clean white light. Imagine it coursing around your body, driving negative energy in front of it. As you exhale, imagine all that negative energy being forced from your fingertips, into the running water and swirling away down the plughole. Do this for as long as it takes to feel cleansed and charged.
Put the plug in and add a small handful of the sea salt to the bathwater. Add a teaspoonful of lemon peel or a few drops of lemon juice to the water as the bath fills.
Once you are in the bath, relax and focus your mind on a candle flame, see it clearly in your minds eye, watch the flame flickering and dancing and feel the flame attracting strong, positive universal energy towards it. Let this energy surround and fill you, and once you have achieved a feeling of calm and contentment, leave the bath and dry off.
Dressed in whatever clothes you feel most comfortable in (freshly laundered ones are best) then move to whatever you are going to use as an altar (even the windowsill in your bathroom will be ok).
CASTING THE SPELL
Fill the small bowl with spring water and cleanse the candle by dipping your fingers in the bowl of water and stroking the candle from root to tip away from you. As you do so, repeat aloud or to yourself:
'I cleanse this candle of all negativity that it might be pure for the work ahead'.
Do this all around the candle.
Using the sharp knife, cut the tip (wick end) of the candle off square - This will become the new base. Carve away a little of the wax from what was the base of the candle to expose enough wick to light (this is now the top of the candle).
Place the upside down candle in the holder and light the newly fashioned wick. As you light the candle, repeat the words:
'As this candle is reversed, so may my fortunes be reversed. As this flame burns bright, may it only attract good fortune into my life.
And it harm none, so mote it be'.
Leave the candle somewhere safe to burn itself out. If you are able to wait, this spell would be more potent if done during a waning moon on a Sunday.
That is a very simple ritual and I hope it will help anyone going through a run of bad luck.
